8 Tips for Dehydrated Skin

Dehydrated skin is a common concern that most of us face at some point in our skin journey.

Whether that's over the cooler months, from catching flights not feelings or just general skin dryness, it’s common and you are not alone, but there are some things you can do to help reduce a lack of moisture or water content in your skin.

First of all, why does it matter if our skin is dehydrated? Dehydrated skin can leave your looking dull and your skin feeling tight as well as exacerbate fine lines.

To keep away the dull, dehydrated appearance first start by establishing a skincare routine that focuses on hydration. Sounds pretty straightforward right?

To combat dehydrated skin and restore its vitality, consider these 8 tips:

1. Drink Plenty of Water

Hydration isn't just about topical products; it starts from within and one of the most effective ways to combat skin dehydration is to ensure you're well-hydrated internally. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day, or more if you're physically active or live in a dry climate. Extra points if it's filtered water!

2. Humidifier Usage

Invest in a humidifier, especially during the winter months when indoor heating can significantly dry out the air. A humidifier adds moisture to the environment, which can keep your skin from becoming dry.

3. Limit Hot Showers and Baths

Spoiler alert: hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and contribute to dehydration. So try to limit those hot-as-hell showers opting for lukewarm water when showering or bathing, and keep the duration short to save your skin in the long run.

4. Exfoliate Gently

Incorporate a gentle exfoliator into your routine to remove dead skin cells and allow better absorption of hydrating products. However, avoid harsh exfoliants as these can disrupt your skin barrier which can further dehydrate your skin.

5. Sheet Masks

I mean we would be silly not to include our HYDR8 Sheet Masks but we’ve slipped it in a bit further down so we don’t look too biased. Treat your skin to a hydrating sheet mask once or twice a week. Our Bio Cellulose masks can even be used overnight to provide intensive hydration while you sleep, allowing you to wake up with refreshed and revitalized skin. Avoid cotton sheet masks as if left on for longer than 10 minutes they can start to reverse the effects of hydration.

6. Moisturise Regularly

Make moisturising a daily ritual. Opt for a fragrance-free, hydrating moisturiser that locks in moisture and helps repair your skin's protective barrier.

7. Barrier Repair Products

Look for skincare products with ingredients like ceramides, fatty acids, and cholesterol. These help rebuild and strengthen your skin barrier, enhancing its ability to retain moisture.

8. Healthy Diet

Consume a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and essential fatty acids. Proper nutrition supports your skin's ability to maintain a strong barrier. When we eat well and nourish our bodies our skin takes note. Try smoothies and juices as a way to add extra fruit and veg to your daily intake.

By incorporating these tips into your daily rituals, you'll be well on your way to repairing your skin barrier and preventing dehydrated skin, resulting in a more radiant and supple complexion. Godspeed glowing skin kings and queens!
